I'm new to Crystal, using 8.5 with odbc connection. Using Visual Linking and select expert to create sql statements.

It seems that I can't pull a record if the last table in the visual linking sequence doesn't have data. ie should pull sales name even if nothing else related to him.

Hope this isn't too vague.
Thanks

Change the join to a LEFT OUTER for that table and don't add any criteria to the record selection for that table, if something needs filtering on that table's fields, use suppression to do so.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I did use left outer join. There are quite a few tables used and the visual linking expert looks like a spider's web (I didn't design the db).

the only thing I can think of is to make a work around using dummy data and suppress the dummy data but this doesn't help later on.

Thanks, though.

So, as SV suggested, do you have selection criteria on the right-hand table? This essentially undoes the left join.

I have selection criteria, but not on the right-hand table.

If you have selection criteria on any table that is left-joined to the first table, you could have this problem.

What about tables to the right of the table that was left-joined?

Any table to the right of a left join must also be left joined, and yes, selection on any table after a left join will effectively undo the left joins to the left of it.

Wow! Yippee! After a day and a half I finally got it. I don't like not using the selection criteria, but hey I'll cope.

Thanks a lot.
