Hello,

I have a fresh install of XP Pro SP3. Frustratingly, I cannot display Chinese characters.

In Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, I have checked off the 'East Asian Languages' box and gone through inserting my XP disk and the ordinary install process. Normally, that's all there is to it, along with choosing the appropriate encoding on my browser.

After a lot of troubleshooting, I have noticed that all the standard Asian fonts in my fonts folder are 0k. It seems like something went wrong with the install. Redid it and same result.

Does anyone have thoughts on this puzzler?

Thanks.

Is there any improvement if you check from within Safe Mode, or from Normal Mode but as another user?

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select the box for file system errors.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Are there any clues in the Event Viewer?
