have norton antivirus 2003... Auto Protect will not enable... Pressing ENABLE button does nothing. Clicking the check on options always resets back off... HELP!!!

Thanx

Have the same problem, tried all symantec knowlege base solutions without any luck. I receive a single error 4002,517 dialog. Symantec is NOT responding to my email requests for additional help! Have spent too many hours already trying to get this feature working properly. This is the only feature that does not work. I need help too however am near the point of shredding the product...

Have you both run all of the program updates etc.?

Are these new installations or were they working before?
Will research this one if you pass on the info.

What operating system and version?
What does your NAV version number come up as?

Hi Kimber,

I purchased the product following a trial of Norton internet security which worked perfectly. Yes all updates for OS and Symantec products are in place.
NAV Version is 9.05.15
XP version is 5.1.2600 SP1

My problem is a bit different, when I try to start Auto-Protect I receive error dialog 4002,517(nothing else). Symantec site provides 3 potential solutions for this error.

1)Registry edit (did not apply as my registry had no entry).
2)Uninstall/Reinstall in clean boot environment. (performed twice! scouring the registry for all symantec/norton related entries post successful uninstall prior to reinstall)
3)Timing conflict with other programs on startup. (Using msconfig, have setup and started only the symantec/norton items. I believe this tells me that there is a conflict with a component in the OS itself.

Have performed all three of the above steps carefully and methodically...the problem remains, Auto-Protect will not start! all other features of NAV work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Tiek

This should really have been a new thread posting, but however....

When you have updated the NAV files, did you use liveupdate?

There is some documentation also at the following link with regard to the error you are having that might apply to you in the FAQ section of the website.

Try here:

faq779-3052

Have a look at the second to last paragraph.

I will continue to look into this and will post if I find anything.

Have a very simular trouble. On other PC. Can not enable Norton auto protect email. ERROR 1101. c:\windows\temp\_is3194\1003.mst said it does not exist. Can't locate it anywhere, Symantic says to un-install NIS , but the file is missing and will not let you un-install. they say to do ................. a very long down load/un-insatll/down load/insatll, etc. Why can't we just add the stupid file back in ?????

If you have a corrupted installation, any shortcuts you decide to use may come back to haunt you in the future.

So if I were you, I would do as they say.

Uninstall the whole mess and start over again, you may need to edit your registry to get it all out.

Good Luck!

Kimber

Some of the new trojans have antivirus killers in them now. An online virus scan may help.
