Hi all,

I feel that the answer of this question is easy but i couldn't get it for some reason :(

I need to ftp from machine1 to machine2

I can ftp to machine2 using the hostname when i'm logged in as root but when i log in with another user id i can't issue the same command (unless i use the IP instead of the hostname)

# ftp machine2
ftp: unknow host machine2

I think its something has to do with name resolution coz when i put the name of machine2 inside /etc/hosts it works fine but i don't want to use /etc/hosts!!! i want to use the DNS for resolution

any idea?

regards
Khalid

Check the permission of /etc/resolv.conf
Should be 644
I re-created your problem by changing this to 600
