I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix to the following problem. I have a laptop that displays the following error when booting up.STOP c0000135 (unable to locate DLL)
The file Winsrv.dll could not be found in the default path.
Beginning dump of physical memory.
The laptop is running NT4.0 workstation sp6. I went as far as installing the drive into another machine as a second drive to search for the file, and it was in the Winnt\sys32 directory wher it belonged. I compared the size and date of the file with the other drive that it was connected to. It was the same. I then copied the file from the master, but I get the same error when I try and boot up the drive back in the laptop.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
richard

Are you running NTFS or FAT?

Also, just to let you know, you've posted an NT problem on the 2k board - you may get more answers on the NT4 Wstn forum. ;)

Bah hit Post too early...

I meant to add that MS have an article on it here:
Of the few times I've come across this, all of them had corrupt software hives without exception. The fact that you've checked the presence and version of the dll already would indicate that yours is probably going to be the same. If you haven't got a current ERD, I fear you're looking at a reinstall... :/

I have experienced this among my users on NTn 4.0 machines. I've been told it has something to do with a corrupt user.dat file. My simple cure is to reimage the computer. Where possible with a 2000 professional image since it sometimes recurrs with a 4.0 image. I have never seen the problem on a Win 2000 machine.

I have the same problem as this on my win2000 pro machine. This problem resulted after repairing my system file located in the config folder which had become corrupt after the failed SP4 install. This is the 3rd time a win update has corrupded my system file causing my machine to be unbootable. Now that I've fixed the system file win2000 pro begins to boot but crashes with the BSoD as follows:

Is there any way to fix this? I've also verified the file to be there, its size and date also, however it is the SP4 version.
