Can't find system error

A friend of mine is trying to load RH 7.1 onto a MAC G4 running Virtual PC 4.0. The install runs completely, but when it tries to reboot after installation, it keeps coming up with 'can't find system' error message.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Haven't tried Virtual PC but I imagine its similar to VMware for intel and I'd guess that the linux boot loader (lilo) was not installed in the MBR of the virtual machine, i.e. in the virtual /dev/hda . A virtual machine needs a boot record the same as a real machine - probably more so because you can't multi-boot a virtual machine from some other OS's boot loader. Unless you have a boot floppy you probably have to reinstall I'm afraid...
