I contacted HP about where I can get the drivers only for my psc 1210 all-in-one printer. The previous owner doesn't have the installation CD and the HP website only has the software download available. So HP told me to use the printer installation wizard and then select HP Deskjet 990c from the printer list. Does that sound right?

I just want to know if those drivers will work with my printer. Any ideas? I know a lot of people have had problems with the psc 1210 so I just want to make sure things don't get screwed up. I'm not really sure I can trust HP, the person I chatted with seemed more like a robot than a person (I contacted them via live chat). And if it's as easy as using the 990c drivers, why don't they just have that info on their website? Seems odd to me.

Also, I forgot to ask HP, but when should the printer be connected? I'm supposed to use the add printer wizard, so do I connect the printer before I start the wizard or after?

most HP printers i have installed want the software installed before you plug in the printer.

after you install the software re-boot with the printer plugged in and turned on.

But I don't want the software, just the drivers. If it was as easy as installing the software from their website, this issue would've been solved one week ago. Their software doesn't have a custom install option either.

I tried the 990c drivers and they didn't work.

I contacted HP again and they can't figure it out.

I'm wondering if these drivers will work -
Any thoughts? Some other people claim those drivers worked for their psc 1210 printers.

What's the problem with the HP software? Takes up too much space? Uninstall it. Hogs resources? Disable startup in msconfig. The driver is in the software package, have you tried downloading the package, unzipping if needed, and pointing Device Manager's Update Driver to it?

The correct sequence is install software, then connect printer. While Image Zone is bloated and takes forever to install, you don't need it after installation. You can keep stuffing different drivers in there or you can install the correct drivers in the correct sequence then remove any extra software. Of course HP will be of no help.

BTW I have an All-in-one 5780 and it uses the HP software to control the scanner and import faxes to the PC, so it's not all bad.

And before you start installing any more HP software, you might want to go thru your system registry and manually remove all references to your HP device. I've seen multiple instance of HP software cause problems in the past. Removing registry entries helps a lot.
