can't find pc in Ms windows network

Hi ppl

there is something strange hapenning in my organization...

we have some w2k machines that aperar in AC , the user is validated in the domain, but when we do a search on the ms windows network, the pc don't apear...
but if we do \\pc002 we can access to the machine...

another curiosity

we've done net send \domain "mesage" and the mesage goes to all pc execpt for that specifc ones, but if we do net send pc002 "mesageee" the msg goes to the right pc!!

why is this happening...
in ac it seems to be right and don't no what or where to search for the problems...

in some of those pc they have net beui is this a problem...

can some one point me something for me to look up to find the problem...

This sounds like DNS to me. I would check a couple of things. Number 1--Check the settings of tcpip on your network adapter for the specific workstation. Ensure you are getting dns info from the correct dns server. Also ensure the box is checked to register with dns. Disjoin and Rejoin as someone stated earlier and perform a release and renew for ipconfig. If configuration info has changed on your domain, you may be using cached information. A good way to know is if your computer takes a while before you get the logon screen.
