cant find laserjet4500 on network.

hello. I have a hp colorjet 4500 printer with a network card in it. I am trying to connect a new win2000 pro laptop to it.

When I go into the printer wizard, and choose network printers, I don't see the name listed anwhere in there. In fact, I never see the name of this printer in any of the non 2000 machines this printer is installed on either. I just have always used the installation disk that came with it that automatically locates the printer.

However, I can't use that disk b/c it's not written for win 2000.

So I'm stuck. How do I find out the name of this printer? I know the IP address, and I tried entering that as the name when it prompted me (\\xxx.xxx.x.x), but the printer can't be found.
How much water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?

have you used jet admin yet it is used when you are conecting to the netowrk port on the printer So long and thanks for all the fish.

no - what is jet admin?

I did get it to work by setting up a new local TCP/IP port on the machine and connecting that way, but I still don't know why I had to do it this way, and why I just can't see it under network neighborhood. (btw it's a win2000 machine if that makes any difference) How much water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?

jet admin is HP software that comes with all network ready printers it finds the new printer on the network and give it any address and sets up every thing so all you have to do is attache to it and print its very useful once you gone through the wizard for the setup So long and thanks for all the fish.
