I have a strange situation. I am running Gateway e-1200 machines. For some reason, when i bring up Internet Explorer 5 on six of them, it returns with the message that the DNS server cannot be found. The machines are on the network and I can ping various site by IP address, but when I try by name, it always fails. Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this?

Win98 . Go to dos prompt type in winipcfg see that TCP/IP has a DNS IP setting . Are tcp/ip via dchp server or set static . If static have you set up dns tab on the setting for IP address . Can you ping the DNS server address ?. if DHCP is being used you may need net bui protocol so machine can talk to DHCP server . May try winipcfg and select renew to renew ip address if dhcp. also try setting ip to manual address and reboot and then change it to DCHP .
