This issue just arose and according to management its urgent. They are trying to fax some stuff, but it wont go through.... And the issue appears to be just for long distance numbers. {I have not made any changes lately. This just started}

I can fax internally, and locally. I even faxed a local number using our local area code.

I am going to reboot the system and the resetting the PRI card with hopes to resync... per this
"
since I am a PBX dummy, I wanted to reach out to other things to look at in the meantime.

1. Can you give some more info on your config? Switch model and s/w release for starters.

2. Different routes/circuits for local and long distance?
3. Does a voice call to the remote fax machine work? (So we can determine if it's a routing issue or a fax/codec problem)

I doubt a reboot will fix your issue. You need to take a butt set or analog phone to that jack and see if you can make the call from there. My guess is someone bought a new fax machine. If it fails with an analog phone then look at the NCOS and see if it is high enough to make the call.

Opt11. I tried dialing the number from that jack and it rings and a fax answers. The strange part is that when i try to send a fax, it dials, and gets an answer. Its almost like it gets rejected before trying to send the actual data ..

It does this from all of our faxes and on several long distance fax numbers.

If you have a CS1000 with media gateways using MGC cards you are limited on the transmission rate between MGC's. For example if your fax machines are in loop 0-1 and your trunks are in loop 0-0 then you are using a VGW channel to place this call. You aso have to set up the fax codec's. If you can try locking your fax machines down to either 9600 baud or 14.4 it will most likely fix your problem. Also make sure you have FAXA in CLS of the fax machine.

I have actually had to move fax machines into the same media gateway as my trunks to resolve this issue. Very poor design if you asked me.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I am still baffled because these have been working fine for years and this just started up a couple days ago. I was out on vacation and have not even touched teh phone system in a good two weeks.

Note: I did get one fax to go out to one of the numbers that was having issues. It retried several times before it went through. The first couple times i tested it I got an Busy/No signal error followed by a "Transaction ok" "TX/RX incomplete
