can't execute app from IE

I'm trying to execute a program from a link in IE. However it keeps coming up Save to disk or Open from current location.

Is there any way I can stop this?

The reason for this is I have an active desktop for my kid and I want them to be able to click on a picture of Tigger to open Word etc..., For some reason though, the check box with 'always open this file etc...' from clicking the link is disabled, can anyone help?
