could someone please tell me what this means, or how to fix this? I've been stuck for 2 days. This message comes up when I try to enter text in a blank field from a query, and from the form connected to the query. All my tables are linked correctly (as far as I know). I can add records in the blank field in the table, but not the query. Help Please! Thanks

You neglected to mention what message you are getting but the likelyhood is that its "... must use an updatable query ...". Outer joins (i.e. LEFT or RIGHT) are usually non-updatable and Access won't permit you to modify anthing in them. It can't be certain about which rows in the base tables to update when a change is made in the query.

You may be able to restate the query to make it updatable but more information is needed to be able to suggest how to do that.

Tables are never linked unless via a query. That's why you can add data to the table. When you do that, Access takes no notice whatsoever of any linked tables except to check any integrity constraints you have declared. It's unlikely you have a referential constraint from the one to the many that affects adding new records.

I've just added data to a left outer join query. Make sure you've got the foreign key field of the one table in the query.
