I have a user who reported to us, "When I try to double click in the tables or pictures to edit them, I get an error, "Cannot use OLE object, pagemaker cannot start the server application. Make sure there's enough memory."

I cannot edit pictures or tables, but I can edit text that is not in a table or a picture. I can write new text.

This is version 7 on Windows 2000 on a network. He IS connected to all the servers he is supposed to be connected to. He said this was not a problem a month ago when he had version 6.5, but we upgraded to 7.0 and now it doesn't work.

DO NOT RUN PM OVER A NETWORK!

This link will explain why, in livid detail. Adobe recommends that you work locally with PM, and will not support network applications. PM7 is a reworked PM6.5 which was designed well before Win2K and requires many system permissions and admin level rights to run properly.

Also, PM does not handle OLE very gracefully at all. OLE was added out of necessity of MS certification, and I recommend that you find every way possible to avoid using it. If you have to use it, make sure all files are LOCAL. It makes for a better work flow. This is not only me saying this, this is the consensus of 12 or so of the gurus that run the Adobe forums and do prepress for their living.

Hope this leads you onto the correct path. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
