Can't edit an unbound text box

I have 2 unbound text boxes where a user can enter a date range for a query. The default dates show up just fine, but I cannot edit the dates? I know this is simple, but I just can't find what I am missing.

I got it fixed - stupid oversite - the controls for the form were not set to edit items.
