Hello all,

I've got an email problem. I have three accounts set up
in Outlook Express through Comcast, all using "mail.comcast.net" as the server. Two of them, my girlfriend's
accounts, work fine. The other one, mine, has stopped
working properly. When I switch the identity to my
account, it tries to download my email for awhile, and
then I get the following error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network
problems, or a long period of inactivity.
Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK', Port: 110, Secure
(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The account is set up correctly (mail.comcast.net). Incoming Mail (mail.comcast.net) and Outgoing Mail (smtp.comcast.net) are set up correctly. Port numbers are set correctly (Outgoing Mail SMTP = 25, Incoming Mail POP3 = 110). I've already tried
calling my ISP, Comcast, and they say their server is
working fine. They told me to delete the account and recreate it. This appeared to work fine for a few days, but today the account started acting up again. I tried deleting and recreating the account again, but this time it won't work. I can retrieve my email from their
website. But, it won't download to my computer. As I
said, email for the other two Comcast accounts downloads
fine. I tried deleting all my sent mail and received
mail, and then emptied the Deleted Items folder. Didn't help. I tried upgrading my Outlook Express
5.5 to Outlook Express 6, and that didn't fix it
either...what do I do??? Why will two accounts work fine,
but not the third one? I read in an article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that sometimes interference with Norton antivirus software can cause this error message, but I don't have Norton, I have McAfee Online Virus Protection. I also have a ZoneAlarm firewall, which I have set to allow Outlook Express to access the web. But, surely if either of these two applications were causing problems with Outlook Express, it would affect all three identities and not just the one, right? Can anyone help???

This sounds familiar to a problem I had as well. Hopefully you have the ZoneAlarm Pro version because what I think you will need to do is add the server mail.comcast.net into your trusted zone.

The non-Pro version of ZoneAlarm does not let you have tis control.

It frustrated me as well for a week until I figured this out. Hopefully the same resolution will work for you.

I've got ZoneAlarm Pro, and Outlook Express is already allowed to access the internet. In the Program Control section, there are two green check marks in both the Access and Server sections. Is there something else I'm not doing? And, again, two of the three identities are having no problem downloading email, and I would think that if ZoneAlarm is interfering, these two identities would also be having problems. I have no idea...

Allowing OE access may not be enough (it wasn't on my system).

If you open up ZA click on FIREWALL and then select ZONES. Select ADD select HOST/SITE and fill in the fields making sure that you are adding the mail server to the TRUSTED zone.
