can't do an ir sync from palm pilot to tosh laptop

running xp home on a toshibia notebook, using palm desktop 4.1, hotsync 4.1 on the laptop the wieless device in control panel is active (so it says) and on the palm pilot m505 (palm os 4.1) hotsync is set to ir to pc/handheld.
when i try to hotsync (hitting the hotsync pix in hotsync) i never get anything on the laptop side.
is there suppose 2 be an icon on the xp taskbar when the wireless link is waiting for a signal? if so there is none.
i just can't figure this sucker out!
help please

it was the toshiba. soon as i updated the bios to the new one they just put online it worked. I Am a Criminal created by the US Government
