I recently had to rebuild my Asus K501J laptop running Windows Home Premium 7. Before I had my touch pad disabled, but now I am unable to find a way to disable the crazy thing.

Several websites suggest:

Click the "Start" button and launch the control panel from the start menu.

Click "Mouse" in the control panel window to open a new dialog box.

Click the "Device Settings" tab.

This Device Settings tab simply does not exist on the Mouse dialog box.

I did download Touch Freeze but it does absolutely nothing. It is supposed to diable the touch pad while typing but does not work.

Any help on the subject?

Thanks,

Daniel

Got it! Had to download Elan Smart Pad then disable the touch pad from there. So good to go!

Merry Christmas to all!

This rebuild has been a real nightmare!

Had to download third party software to make my touch pad disable, Many Cam Virtual so that Skype wasn't upside down, and so the microphone would work in Skype.

My contacts in Outlook are not working the way they are supposed to. When I add a member to a distribution group, I get a new window I have never seen before that really does nothing. Grrrr!

Every time I tried to update drivers, I was told that I had the most recent one.

Now I am having trouble synching my iPhone and iPad to iTunes. I uninstalled the version on my computer and reinstalled the most recent version.

I was able to synch them by using my desktop computer, but that is no excuse for the laptop not to be working properly after a frsh build. I probably should have opted for installing a new OS in place.

I wish I had left well enough alone and just put up with hinky boot ups!

What does the Device Manager say about your hardware, are there any errors indicated? See Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System\Device Manager.
