I have 900MB freeon the C drive, the other 4 drives are fine and can be deragged and scanned etc. But if I run Scandisk on the C drive it wiil prompt me to say that it gas restarted 10 times and that I should shut down other programs. I don't have any running! Also defragmenting C won't won't finish as itnever gets pass 3%.

Thanks for any help

HCP.

Are you sure nothing is running? Ctrl-Alt-Delete should list all programs running. Try ending each task (except explorer) and then run Defrag. Let it run overnight without touching the Pc, if it is badly fragmented it could run for many many hours.

If you are going to let it run over night, make sure virus programs are disabled as well as any other programs that run periodically. What happens, if defrag is running and a program atempts to write to the drive, defrag starts over again. Also run scandisk before defrag.
