Cant create hyperlinks accross 2 directories

For some reason i cant create a hyperlink from one directory in the server to another in excel. I used to be able to do this and now it wont let me. It saids that it is an invalid address. Weird thing is i am able to create a hyperlink in the same directory and it works fine but not in any other directory. Any ideas?
