Greetings,

Here is my problem:

I can't connect to my Merlin Magix R4 processor via the direct admin port.

Here is some backgound:

- Everything works just fine on Merlin Legend R7
- Everything = cables, adapter, etc.
- Powered downed system L to R
- Powered up R to L
- Each time system comes up but I can restore my converted Legend R7 to Magix R4 (because I can't get WinSPM to connect)
- Get a check the cables connections error message

Kinda stuck until this one gets worked out, just dropped back to Legend R7 processor and everything is fine.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Do you have two different processors - a Legend R7 and a Magix R4 - or qre you simply upgrading the processor? If you have everything working on the Legend R7 - when you install the Magix R4 - are you doing a "frigid" start or a board renumber to identify the system modules to the new, swapped processor? If not - that could be part of the problem. When the Magix processor is installed, can you get into system programming/maintenance through a 4424LD or 20L telephone? If the Magix processor is installed and a board renumber performed - and you still cannot connect via WinSPM - maybe it is the version of WinSPM you have. Have you upgraded it to R9.0 via the Avaya website? If not, you may have trouble connecting to a Magix R4. If you can get into maintenance/programming via an operator phone, you could try resetting the processor admin port to see if that fixes your connection problem.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply.

Here's where I'm at now as always any suggestions are always welcome:

- Two different processor (Legend R7 & Magix R4)
- Frigid restart (powering down LtoR powering up RtoL)
- Setup space renumbering (from operator console)
- WinSPM version 9.0
- Reset both RS232 ports via console

Results - nada, zip, nothing

Still can connect to Legend R7 processor but can't to Magix R4 processor when swapped.

Sounds like you may have a bad serial port on the CKE5.

I would remove the straps near thr Super Caps (Batteries) for a few minutes and see if that fixes it.

I recommmend that you do not load any translations or make any changes until you prove it works or doesn't.

If you have an 016 or 012 module on your system, I would try connecting to the Magix processor via the modem - which is the other alternative connection in all versions of WinSPM. Simply run a connection from your computer's modem to an open port on either of these two modules and choose connection via modem in the software. That at least should get you connected to your processor. I agree with Merlinman - that if you have done everything above and still cannot connect via the admin port - then your processor may have a "defective" admin port - assuming the wiring between the computer and processor are correct, i.e., db9 from computer serial port to af355 adapter, and a straight-thru lan cable from the adapter to the admin port.

Many thanks to those who have offered help. I spoke to the folk I got the processor from earlier today and they agreed to repair or replace.

Just for those who may search the threads for this problem let me wrap it up with the following. (And don't have the ability to return the processor)

- Cabling setup properly (it worked with Legend R7)

I didn't try to the latest suggestions. If you find yourself in a spot where you can't return the processor you have option one, two and three.

1. Pull the batteries and wait
2. Run a line from a T/R port to a Trunk dedicated for programming
3. Just breakdown and use the console for everything
