We have some new workstations in the office runnning Windows XP64. We discovered that we can't connect to the Samba server running on our Solaris 9 box. Windows XP 32 bit machines still connect fine. I upgraded the Samba package on the Solaris from 3.0.20a to 3.2.4 but still a no go on connecting from the 64bit machines. We are running the security on the Samba in "USER" mode. Any help on how to fix this or if it's even possible would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx,

You might check on the ports being used by XP64. Windows XP 32 works on two or three different ports - maybe this has been changed.

You might also do a search on Vista and Samba issues. There were some changes in Vista regarding the default NetBios protocol being used, IIRC.

hi,
I believe that XP64 is not the cause of fail:
Samba simulate smb protocol, the same of Windows uses:
if from these ws you can see genuine Windows shares,
you have to see alse Samba shares.

Try to cross test: use ols users on XP64 and new users
in XP32. Try to create an user without password.
Set on XP64 an ip address of an XP32 workstation,
(detached from the net or off).

bye
victor
