Can't connect to MySQL4.0g on WXP/IIS5.1

i use connection data reported from MySQLAdmin, i get the "Can't connect to..." #10061 error, using any client i have (MySQLclient, MySQLcc, ecc).

i have such a config:
MySQL4.0 gamma (running service: mysqld-nt)
IIS5.1
Windows XP Pro
Dynamic IP in an ActiveDirectory LAN

should i left the MySQL4.0gamma for the stable MySQL3.x?
