Can't connect to MySQL server

Hello all:

I have installed MySQL Servers and Clients (v 3.23.55);
MyODBC (v2.50.39-nt) and MySQL Front (v 2.5) on my
Windows 2000 Server running SP3

What is the sequence of launching and loading MySQL.

I use C:\MySQL\BIN\MySQL.exe and get this error:
Error 2003 Can't connect to MySQL server on localhost
(10061)

mysql.exe is i think the client app
there must be something like mysqld.exe or mysqld-nt.exe - i'm just guessing as i do not run the win build
