I'm running a small home network, with 3 Windows XP Pro SP3 machines and one OS X Snowleopard MacBook Pro. I've run this network for a few years, but one of the XP machines hard drives died, so I had to replace it and reinstall XP. I've added it back onto the network, but now it asks for a username and password when I try to connect from the other machines. I enter the username and password (both of which are valid) and it keeps telling me I've entered an invalid username or password. The machine is not running the firewall or anti-virus. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be the problem? I'd really appreciate some help. (PS: If this isn't the correct forum for this post, let me know where it should go.)
Thanks,
Peter V.

are the users on all the PC's the same as to user-name and password?

is the new install using the same IP as the OLD install?

are you using the same name and password as the old install?

as a test, create a new USER and a share (set permission to everyone as read/write)... then try to access the new share from another PC, using that user name and password you just created...
does it work?

Which Firewall is installed on the new hard drive? Apart from the Windows Firewall, with other third party types it may not be sufficient to have them in a turned off or disabled stage as many of the settings remain active.

Are you able to Ping, from and to, this machine?

Have you enabled File and Printer Sharing?
