Hi gurus -

Here is my problem - we have multiple servers (Win2k3) - with the main db server running mysql - it has been running fine up until a week ago -

It can now be accessed from a browser fine (I can connect, view, delete records etc) but I get a 'can't connect to localhost' if I run from the command-line -

I have tried to telnet on port 3306 but get the same reply -

I have also set up mysql (5.0) on 2 different servers - one installed fine - the other has the same error -

I am sure it is a network/firewall problem but our network sys admin assures me it is not !

Any ideas or pointers would be great -

cheers

OK Guys - sorted it -

Just copied the ini file from the working server and it all seems ok ! weird huh ?

As an aside why are the 'ip address' and 'port' lines remmed out in the ini file ?

cheers

cos locally the machine will use 'localhost' and a tcp socket to run as default unless you specify them - normally say on a machine with more than 1 nic and want to also specify using a tcp port (default being 3306) for connection.

Local sockets are faster and always bound to the loopback interface (default 'localhost' ip is always 127.0.0.1) and is always resolveable.
