I am tryingto compact an access 97 database - I get the following error:

Record(s) can't be read; no read persmission on 'c:\docume\database.mdb'

Any ideas? thanks!!!

Fred

Is 'c:\docume\database.mdb' where your database is? Silly question, but: do you have read permission in that directory? Have you tried copying the .mdb somewhere else (e.g. c:\temp) and compacting it there? Also, make sure that you repair it before you compact it.

Thanks for responding - That is where I have the database - The database is on a shared drive on our network - when I got the error, I copied it to my own computer and it still does not work - I did repair it first and that did not do the trick either -

Any other thoughts? thanks!!!!

Fred

No. It has not been secured through access. just in a secured folder with limited access to the folder. Anything else? thanks!!
