can't close IE windows

Hi, When I am surfing, I can no longer close the open windows with the X,in the right hand corner of the screen. I have to go to File and hit close. The only window I can close is the first one I open. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanx Ed

I've had this happen a couple of times and just used alt-f4
