Hi all,

I have a friend that is running XP Pro. He apparently has picked up some kind of spyware/virus that is causing major problems with the system.

I have run SpyBot and cleaned up all the spyware files, and then ran a Virus scan with updated detection files and it did pick up a few viruses on his system.

However, whenever he logs in...his desktop gone, and a blank white screen flickers where his nice picture used to be. When you log off, you can actually see the white screen shut off, and his desktop is momentarily there before it logs off.

I have looked in the task manager, but I can't seem to find any programs that would be causing this.

has anyone seen this before?

Thanks...

Have you turned off the system restore?

Also can you start the computer in safe mode?

Something probably got buggered up when the virii were removed. Open a command prompt and have the XP cd in the drive. Then run [blue]sfc /scannow[/blue].

Might try running 'Process Explorer' (freeware) from .

After sorting on the 'Company Name' heading, you can focus in on those few process items (often blank) that are not from the most common sources such as Creative, Logitech, Microsoft, and Symantec, etc.

You can kill any suspect process to see what happens - such as better stability or problem neutralization.

Do you get the white screen in safe mode?

Unix IS user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are.
