cant change resolution

i cant change the resolution on my linux machine. why? it is set up to 800x600 but evertime i change to 1024x768 and restart xwindows, it change back to 800x600.

why it cant go higher resolution? i am usint ATI with 8 mb video card.

maybe 800x600 is your default resolution? Maybe try running your configuration script again, but choosing 1024x768 as the default resolution?

Go to the above site and try the tips provided. I had the same problem with RH9 in KDE. One preson sited the horizontal refresh rate. Another noted that if you setup for a generic video, you'll be locked in at 800x600 and need to run the configure settings.
