I don't know how this happened but yesterday IE 6 had its home page changed from the one I typed in to ' This is a BAD site and opens other pages continuously. If I change the URL back to what I want or anything else the settings get saved but when I next run IE it gets put back to the BAD one.

Anyone have any idea how to stop this happening?

Thanks
Neil

Adaware is amazing...the homepage thingy sounds like theftware though...i hope it detects it...try going to the advanced tab and restoring your internet options to the defaults and trying again....also....after you run adaware check msconfig for any nasty programs in there that you don't recognize....

heres a good link to match them to:

You could try searching the registry for that website address and deleting the keys that show up(just the enrty for that website.) B/U your registry first, of course.

This can be risky, so try it as a last resort.

Also delete all of your temporary internet files and cookies.

Thanks for all the help. I have tried all the things but none have worked. This is a very annoying problem and it looks like I will eventually have to reinstall my OS!! But I'm gonna have to wait a bit as I haven't got time yet. So any more ideas would help!!

Do a repair on IE. I would not go so far as to reinstall OS.

If you encounter problems that you cannot resolve, it is often beneficial to uninstall Internet Explorer and then reinstall it. This procedure replaces files that might have been damaged.

In Windows, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Notes

If you are using Windows XP, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
If you upgraded to Internet Explorer 6, when you uninstall Internet Explorer 6, you will go back to the version of Internet Explorer that was on your computer before you upgraded.

Have you tried using System Restore to go back in time before you met up with that URL?

Did you try editing your registry?

Start-Run, type REGEDIT click ok
Look in,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\+Software\+Microsoft\+Internet Explorer\Help_Menu_Urls
See what URL is listed, if the site url is there you can Change it to the one you want or delete it by right clicking on it.
Also look in,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\+Software\+Microsoft\+Internet Explorer\Search

also here,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\+Software\+Microsoft\+Internet Explorer\Help_Menu_Urls

Always backup registry first before making changes.
