I have inherited a Merlin Magix 2 System and I don't know much about it. There isn't any real documentation but I have downloaded some stuff for it. Anyway, I have a phone unable to dial outside the system. Whe I dial the first 2 digits of the prefix a message on the console says access denied. It is unrestricted under Restrictions but under ESS Restrictions it lists ESS-2 Restriction. I think this is the problem and it needs to be a 0, but I don't know how to change it. I don't have any documentation and don't know where it is located. Any help would be appreciated.

the manuals are right on avayas website for free!

It's most likely restricted either by the restriction setting under the Extensions menyu or under the ARS restriction under the Extensions menu. May want to check the ARS tables to see what it takes to get out on your system as well.

You might want to check forced account codes. Look under extensions, account and see if your ext. is in there.

1)Go to the Avaya web site.
2)Download the manual.
3)Read the manual.
4)Realize that you do not have the time to spend learning the telephone programming trade.
5)Call a certified tech.

You can skip steps 1-4 if you would like....

Or not. Some folks don't like the idea of paying for a certified tech for a few hundred when they can learn it for their time only. I think that is why most of us are here. Many times they come here AFTER they have paid a certidied tech anyhow.

Ess (Extension Status Restriction) was developed for the HOTEL INDUSTRY!

Think of this, A Room has been rented, and the operator Presses a button to allow the Guest to make calls.

Now, the Guest checks out, thus, the operator presses another button to RESTRICT the phone.

If this is the case, then the ROOM can dial "0" and reach the operator, but no where else.

To fix this, change your Extension Status under OPTIONS to Group Call, NOT HOTEL.

That would mean, go to STANDARD SPM > then Sys Prog > Exit/Start > Options > Ext Status > Select Group Call, NOT HOTEL.

I would imagine you will see HOTEL highlighted when you get there.

Change it, and your problem should go away.
