I have 7 PC's on a network 1 has 2k Server Small Biz. and runs fine the other 6 have 98SE. All 6 that have 98SE can browse the network and access network resources they can also ping websites and access the router config page (192.168.2.1) but can't bring up websites. There are no proxy servers or proxy settings set and they are configured to use LAN settings and all get an address from the router. They did have AOL and use the AOL version of IE(AOL icon in the upper right hand corner). In the network settings each PC has IPX/SPX, AOL dial up , and AOL adaptors which most likly isn't needed anymore and TCP/IP is set to default protocol. If I upgrade IE to 5.5 could this solve the issue

It might, but AOL is probably the issue. AOL comes with it's own set of winsock files. These copy over the original windows winsocks files. You might want to take out AOL and then refresh the winsock.dll file and wsock32.dll file from the system file checker ( sfc.exe )

Thanks for the tip I will try it. How do I use sfc.exe and where can I find documentation on it?

Thanks again, John

YOU DON'T MENTION IF THE 200 IS ACTING AS A PROXY/ROUTER OR IF YOU HAVE A HARWARE ROUTER LIKE A LINKSYS OR SOMETHING. YOU CAN PING BUT NOT RESOLVE NAMES. RESOLVING NAMES IS ALL ABOUT DNS. LOOK FOR THAT

The problem is fixed. Each pc had a firewall setting and in the previous network setup the 2K was the Router and is now just another pc on the network that all the other computers logon to and get info. I am now using a router that is taking care of it all.

Thanks for the replys, John
