Cant boot to Log on to Windows

When I turn on my pc running windows 2000 professional, it boots up but cant boot up to the Log on to Windows for me to press the ctrl alt del to log on to the network.
Any idea.

What does happen when it boots? Does 2k boot up start - and if so, how far does it get?

History - did you change any hardware/software have virus/spyware problem before this started happening? Or pull the plug on machine without shutting down properly?

I will try the safe mode.
I suspect the problem to be due to power because it was not properly shut down due to power problem in our area.

If power outage, then you may have a filestore corruption. Try booting into recovery console and running chkdsk c: /p
