I installed Debian 3.1 on an old (but good) Pentium 2 350MHz 128MB machine, using the default options, and it installed with no problems. However, when I rebooted the machine following installation, it got as far as the GRUB command "boot" and hung.

I then installed Ubuntu 5.04 on the machine, again using default options, and I get the same problem.

Can anybody tell me what might be happening here, and what I can do about it?

Thanks a lot.

It seems to work now. I just reinstalled Debian, and it boots fine. Thanks.
