I am receiving an error of "access denied" when I am trying to backup the system state on remote computers. The remote agents and open file options are installed on these remote system. Any ideas?
Backup Exec for W2K/NT. I have one main backup server running the full version and remote agents and open file options on the rest. Exchange server has Exchange option as well. But one system is having problems letting the backup get access to the system state. I can't figure out what is is wanting in terms of access level to the files. Is it something is the local policy maybe? I have probably more than enough permissions for the Backup Operators/administrators etc. And why is it only one of the servers. They are all configured the same in terms of permissions.
In order to fully backup System State information on a W2K server, you will need to make sure the account that the BE services are running with is added to the Administrators group. If the W2K server being backed up is remote, the same account will need to also have Admin privilages. In addition, you will need to push out RANT to the remote server.
You need to have the Remote Agent license on the BE server if you are trying to do remote system state backups of a Win2K Server box. What OS versions are you using? You cannot backup Win2K Servers using BE on a NT box. You must have BE installed on a Win2K box to backup Win2K system state. Make sure you are logging on the BE media server with the BE system services account, and that the account is in the local Administrators group on the target machine to be backed up. When you get "Access denied, directory/" error messages, specifying default attach information to the remote computer using the Backup Exec Service Account Credentials will resolve this issue in most cases.
Hope this helps!
