Can't backup database-hang!!

Hi,
My SQL log file size already full, i totally can not perform any backup to clear the log file and system hang. How to clear the log file via other approach?? Or how to increase the log file size??
Note: The log transaction is not important.

Have you tried the following?

SQL Server 6.5:
DUMP TRANSACTION dbname WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY, NO_LOG

SQL 7 and higher:
BACKUP LOG dbname WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY, NO_LOG Terry L. Broadbent - DBA
