Hello all,

I just took over a new network about a week ago and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me.

Here is a little background on the network. We currently have 4 NDPS printers in our tree. They are all HP 4000 series printers. All have static ips. I have a new HP 2340 that I have added a static IP to from HP WEBJETADMIN (Latest version). We are running one Netware 6 server WITHOUT iManager (Don't ask, lol). When I go into ConsoleOne (V.1.3.6.d, all server snapins installed) I try and create an NDPS printer object and get a message about not having the appropriate "Creation Snapins" for the NDPS printer object. It states that the "Generic Object" creator will create the object but might not work right. So I create the object, then go into NDPS Manager to create a NDPS printer agent. When I do so, I go to config it and am wondering what gateway to use? If I choose the HP printer gateway, I can see the existing 4 printers and the new printer I assigned the static IP to. I select the new printer and enter the IP and I am still getting a "Not Bound" message. Anyone seen this? Should I be using the Novell gateway? I had it bound once but I know I am not configing something right because I still coudn't see it under NDPS printers while adding the printer on my desktop. Also the NDPS printer object I created in eDirectory is not working right, Thanks in advance!

you cant use console1 for ndps

use nwadmin
and yes if possible always use the novell gateway

NWADMIN with Netware 6? ConsoleOne should be the only admin tool I need with NW6 right? So your saying I have to set up a que? Are you saying create the object through NWADMIN then go into NDPS manager and create the agent?

Thanks in advance!

Console ONE isn't the only tool you need. Novell never developed snapins for NDPS for consoleOne.

Either use NWADMIN or iManager. Note that with NetWAre 6.0, you'll have to install iManager 2.0 or higher. iManager actually works better if you have XP workstations you're deploying to.

Wow, learn something everday, I didn't know that. Thank you!

So should I create the necessary objects and then create the printer agent through NDPS manager? Also, assuming I choose the Novell gateway. How can I make it bind? Thank you so much in advance!

You pretty much do the whole process through NWADMIN. When you do this, you'll get an NDS printer object and also a new printer agent on the server in the NDPS Manager. Select the Novell gateway and it will step you through the process. If you don't get to a screen that asks you for the IP address, you've chosen the wrong option.

If you use NDPS manager to create the printer, it will only create a public access printer that can't be managed through NDS. Use NWADMIN for controlled access. Most likely you want controlled access since public access printers are pretty useless.
