I have Crystal Reports 8.5 and recently needed it to add a field to an old report. It seems that any database fields or text boxs can not be added. There is a "ghostbuster symbol" (usually like a no smoking symbol of course without the cigarette) when I hover over the report with the field being dragged and will not let me add them. I can't change the height of the headers or footers either. I closed out completely, re-opened a NEW report and it does the same thing. Any suggestions? I don't even know where my install disks are to re-install. Of course moving existing objects work fine on old reports already created. I figured maybe I clicked on something by accident to put a lock on the report.. But can't find anything that I may have done...

Thanks in advance..

Hi,
Make sure that somehow the file ( or files) are not set to read-only or that the permissions on the directory where the files are located is limiting your ability to modify them.

I don't think file permissions would affect you inside the designer.

So if I understand this you can move existing fields around but can't add new fields? Can you add a group (insert > group)? Can you then add objects into the brand new group header?

What happens if you save the report under a new name, close and reopen CR, and then open the new named report? Does the behavior change?

Any chance this report was part of Crystal enterprise or something else like that at some point?

Are you sure you are using a standard version of CR or are you using a special OEM version (see Help About)?
