I get the following message when trying to attach a file of any kind to any e-mail in Outlook 2000 on Win95B laptop:

"Can't create file: BKC.jgp. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder."

I can't figure it out...what folder is it talking about? I have been sending and receiving attachments for years in Outlook. This problem is beyond me. No matter what, I get the same error (as stated above) EVERY TIME I try to attach anything to an e-mail.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:
(1) Ran a "Repair" of the installation
(2) Removed Outlook 2000 and re-installed it.
(3) Removed Office 2000 and re-installed it.
(4) Removed office 2000, deleted all references in Registry and re-installed it.
(5) Ran RegClean
(6) Tried every way under the sun to attach a file.
(7) Updated and ran McAfee's VirusScan

What I have not done:
(1) Re-Installed Windows 95B or upgraded to Win98 (CD-ROM quit working)

HELP! Anyone seen this before?

Never seen that before, but would suggest re-installing your OS. Kevin

Trying to create a new file when you're trying to send something outbound, eh?
Assuming the option is made available to you, have you tried making C:\Windows\Temp the directory being asked for?

Did you install the "critical" Microsoft Email Sercurity Update recently? Or more specifically, JUST before the problem was discovered?
I read an article ( that claims the security update causes more problems than it solves. Granted, the article mostly refers to incoming messages, but maybe there's something buried in the Microsoft Website's information pages about the ESU that makes mention of your particular problem...?

I am having the exact same problem. It comes and goes and can be corrected by deleting the user's profile (rather drastic), but that is in no way a permanent fix. Any other information out there? I have been all over Microsoft's site and found zilch about this. May have to *gasp* open a ticket with Redmond.

Nothing extra installed, just Standard Office 2000 SR-1. I'm running on NT WKS 4.0, Sp 6a with roaming profiles enabled. The domain controller with the profiles is on the same physical subnet. Been tearing my hair out over this. We went over switch problems in the route to the Exchange server, NIC settings and BIOS updates, permissions on the workstations, possible AV conflicts, video drivers, every straw no matter how rediculous, but not the RIGHT straw... Like I said, I can delete the user's profile and it fixes the problem temporarily, but an honest solution still eludes me.

Glad to know I'm not alone. My problem is happening on a Win95B laptop. One thing I found out through the grapevine is that this user did an intall of Office 97 after Office 2000 had been installed on the system. I don't know the circumstances or why. There are no traces of Office 97 anymore, but it is another variable. I'm shootin for straws here!

By chance, jaeddy, have you tried installing Office 97 after Office 2000 had already been on the system once before?

(Boy I wish Microsoft was listening)...B-(

No, never saw that. It says it applies only to Terminal Server, but I'm willing to give it a try. If the snow lets up and I can ever get back to work...

Okay, Dreamboat, I think you have provided the crucial hint. Let me bounce this off you folks and see if it's a ball or a hockey puck:

This is on an NT system using roaming profiles; however, we do not allow the Temporary Internet Files folder to migrate with the profile, and of course, this is where the Outlook Secure Temp folder is located. The folder exists on the local machine when the user is logged in, but it looks awfully damned suspicious to me, particularly where the error described in the KB article is EXACTLY what we are seeing here.

I am going to try moving the loaction of the secure folder to a location in the roaming profile that does migrate at logon/off. I'll update this if it is successful, but not likely until Monday.

I got wind of IE 5.5 installing an incorrect VXD that causes problems in Office 2000. I thought it was curious because on this laptop, I upgraded it to IE 5.5. Anyone seen this? If/when I find the Article Number I'll pass it on.

Gonna try what DreamBoat suggested too.

Good luck everyone!

SON OF A BISCUIT!!!!!!!!!! It worked! LOL

The fix in article: did the job! :p

The value was %CACHE% and I changed it to C:\Windows\temp on this Win95b laptop.

Now Outlook acts correctly and we are back in the attachment's business!

Thanks to everyone and expecially DreamBoat.

Way to go! You're my dreamboat, techsupportgirl...(he he he) s-)
