Hi there!

I have a problem with a fresh install of Vista Business incl. SP1 on a Dell Notebook(D630). It's necessary that the owner connect directly to a network printer. Everytime we try to connect over TCP/IP we get the errormessage:

"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed
(error 0x00000003)."

This happens with every printer we try(e.g. HP8100, Canon IR2100). What we have tried:

- Automatic and manual connection
- Connect to name or ip
- Vista included driver and the actual one from HP
- Deleted all printers and ports, started in safe mode, cleaned Spooler and reg(
We tried it with userlogon and as local administrator. Attaching a local printer or via a windows print server is working. But unfortunately we have to connect directly.

Any help appreciated!

Instead of connecting to a network printer by name or IP, Use the add printer wizard to add a new local printer. Create a new local port \\server\share as appropriate.

check this faq out it belongs to "markdmac" faq329-5798 i have found that his scripts work on 'vista business' pick out the printer part of it and run a logon script (local or domain)if the printer is shared on a 2003 server it works a treat...

Thanks for your answer. What do you mean with "\\server\share"? I use the wizard and create a new local port. And then? How should vista now without IP which Printer I want to connect?

\\server\share could be \\computername\printername if it's a shared printer on a particular computer (and name resolution is working properly). If your network doesn't resolve names, you can use the ip address like \\ip-address\printername. It depends somewhat on how the specific printer is connected to the network.

Windows Vista laptop can't connect to network printer on home netw

See if there are any Spooler type errors in the Event Viewer, is the Service running?

You cannot add a printer, and you receive printer spooler error messages

Doing a google search, it seems that your error indicates that a path can not be found. Various forums suggest you have the latest driver OR trying an XP driver.
