Greetings,
I recently installed a Win2K Server. Its a domain controller using Active directory. Its also the only server on a small LAN. I had originally prepped it at my office and checked out everything from a Windows 98 workstation. The following day I took it to the client's site, hooked everything up but couldn't see it or log on from any workstation. It kept saying "A domain controller could not be found...". I couldn't even Ping it...But, when I started one of the LAN troubleshooting tools on the server and captured packets, it could see pings coming from a workstation, but wouldn't respond. The packets clearly showed which IP the pings were coming from etc. I fought with this thing for hours. Two workstations on the same switch could see each other fine.
So on a whim I went into Remote Access and configured the server to be a router on the Lan. And al of a sudden, everything was working. None of it made any sense. The server and 2 workstations were in the same room plugged directly into the switch.
The next day I went back, disabled Remote Access and Routing and it kept on working. And it's still working. Can anybody shed any light on this subject?

Thanks,
Brian
