I have a 60 gig hard drive that I tried to upgrade to SP2 and things didn’t go to well, so I bought a larger Maxtor120 gig hard drive. To do a clean install of Win XP. Everything went fine, upgraded ok, running smoothly. Now here is my problem. I went to put the old 60 gig HD ask a slave. Win XP detected it fine and in the bios. Now when I try to access the drive it say it is Raw and needs to format the drive I still have stuff on that I need to get off of it. What do I need to do.

Thanks
Jason

I've been able to salvage drives by using MBRWORK from Put it on a bootable DOS floppy and boot off it. Select the 60-gig drive, erase the MBR and EMBR, and it will give you the option to recover partitions. It will scan the drive looking for partitions and rebuild your MBR and EMBR. Assuming there's nothing physically wrong with the drive, after you pop the disk and reboot, XP should recognize the drive and let you access it.

I dont understand? I run that utility and there are so many options and it only detected the new drive.

Did you have a program called GoBack installed on your old drive? From your symptoms, I don't think so, but I have to ask. If you had GoBack, reinstall it. If not, then you may want to try some data recovery tools. Here are just a couple:
