Hi, I have a wireless LAN router "hama" that also has 4 ports built-in switch. I can't ping from my wireless laptop to the computers connected to the switch ports on my router. I have tried everything but nothing seems to work. I don't think its fun to use wireless connection when you are not able to access your own LAN. Internet connection works fine though, its just that I am not able to access my own LAN. Thanks in advance, take care!

This is a firewall issue.
You need to make an exception for ICMP traffic on all clients.
Be careful of "hidden" firewalls in antivirus products; PC-Illan, for example, is notorious for this.
Be careful of firewall components in VPN client software; CISCO VPN client, for example, is notorious for this.

But it is not a wired vs. wireless issue, it is a firewall setting in your operatings system and/or a third-party software.

Thanks bcastner, I have checked all my PCs and it doesn't seem to be the problem of firewall. When I connect to the LAN through my normal NIC on my laptop, I can access everything but when I try with Wireless connection, I fail to do so. There is something else that we are missing here and hope someone has had the same problem before and has resolved it. Hopefully we will learn from someone's experience but right now its very annoying.

Sounds like the LAN and WLAN may be on different sub-networks.
It must be worthe checking the IPs and masks on the client machines?

Thanks Ostridge, I have come to a conclusion that since my Toshiba Laptop (the one in question) uses WiFi and not WLAN, it cant have access to LAN resources as normal LAN computer. I have checked everything but it wont work :-( .
But I really appreciate your help.

Regards

You don't say what operating systems are in use, but I've found that on a couple laptops in a similar situation to yours, I needed to disable the on-board NIC and then the laptop would talk through it's WiFi connection ok. Just a thought...

I am using XP Professional in my LAN, as far as I remember, I did try that before but I can try it once more as it did work for you :), thanks!
