I'm having a problem with a desktop that is running Windows 98 SE that recently received the W32netsky.P@mm virus. I am running Norton Antivirus Small Business Edition 8.0. Norton caught the virus and removed it. When I run the antivirus program it does not find any other viruses on the machine.
Problem: The real time setting keeps popping up identifying the W32netsdky.P@mm virus in the:Windows\TemporaryInternetFiles|ContentIE5\index.dat folder. It won't allow me to delete the file "index.dat" and says that I do not have the permissions to remove the file. When I go into safe mode I get an error message that says "himem.sys detected unreliable XMS memory @ address 0380CC6A XMS driver not installed." I then updated to IE 6.0, but still get the error message. I also downloaded the W32netsky.P@mm fix from the Symantec site, but that did not do it. Apparently others logging onto the site have experienced the same problem. Question: Do I need to replace the memory of copy a missing file to the C:drive. Or should I remove a file in the registry to remove this error. I emailed Symantec's tech support - no answer yet. Any ideas.
