Can't access "local disk"

I just upgraded my office app; i installed via the cmd prompt
1. change user /install
2. change user /execute

reboot the server after I installed it.

I was able to publish the app, but when I try to access the published office app and opened the file on the file server (local disk), I get "could no open "F:\data\test.xls"

do I have a corrupted office installation? I check my group policy and didn't see anything block the access.

Many thanks,

My guess here is that perhaps users were on the server whilst you installed ?

It looks like excel is trying to open a file it can't find. Perhaps if you create thsi "F:/Test.xls" then open it, then close it the issue might just go away.

I can opened it through UNC path by going through \\file01\test.xls, but not via citrix mapped drive.

I assume that file01 is a potential machine name, and therfore your citrix server is called file01.

If you can open the published app and open \\file01\shar\test.xls then its not excel thats the problem. Its drive mappings or permissions.

Make sure your login script or whatever is running so that "F" drive is available when the app is open. I would be publishing the excel exe and then trying to navigate using its file and open facility until I know I can get to F frive.

I have another server that I can open the file fine and I check every group policy that I set and couldn't find anything; file01 is one of my partitions on my file server, when I click open excel and then go to my computer, double click the F drive and I can browse all the contents, but if I click and open it I get " couldn't open the file"; drive mapping seems fine, it looks like some permission issues, but how come I can open it via unc within the open window?

Filemon and regmon use them to see what is going on. Try copying the actual file locally to citrix server and opening there.

It will be something daft, you just know it.

What seems to be happening is that Excel is looking for the default template file (in your case it is trying to do this using F:\...). I used to get this error (don't recall the circumstances). Go into Options->General tab and change your default file path. HTH

I can open it if I copy the file to my server, it comes up instantly; what could be the issue?

It seems like it only happens to the ms office app files, if I
open adobe file in the "network drive" client mapped drive, it opened instantly. what would be the correct way to install the office 2007? Am I installed incorretly

To install apps on a Citrix server you can either use add/remove programs, or change user / etc.

There is no problem that I can see with that log, unfortunately, thats about a thousandth of the information you should have. (did I say it would be straightforward) :)

To use Filemon, on the console open filemon. Then at client run excel app. Once error has been displayed or whatever, stop the filemon. Then what you are looking for is Access Denied, or ACC DEN or something like that.

This is perhaps taking a bit long, alternative is to uninstall and re-install if you are under time pressure, if you want the fun of troubleshooting we shall keep going.

thanks so much for the follow up Scott, this is driving crazy;
I remove the office last night and installed again by use

change user /install and change user /execute reboot.

I am not sure what else to look; the server is currently on SP1.

Thank You again

OK lets go through the tick boxes. For this purpose the console is administrator on the CItrix server itself. i.e. we would not be using a ICA client and therefore a vanilla Win2K3 desktop in effect.

1, Can you launch Excel.exe on the console.

2. Can you launch excel.exe at a client ?

For the two above, forget your file test.xls for the moment. Just launch basic excel blank worksheet.

If this is all ok then we can assume that Excel is installed properly and is not the issue.

3. At the console, double click the test.xls held locally on the citrix server hard drives.

4. Double click the network test.xls.

Has it failed at this point ? If not

5. Then alter the application published to open the local copy.

At which point/s does it fail. (We know it faile at the next step logically.)

applied sp2 and work fine now, but it breaks the application to print properly; if I login as admin I can print fine. Thoughts?

Thanks a lot!

That sounds like print drivers to me, or permissions to printers. Does the app do anything fance other than print ?

I only update the windows service pack 2 and didn't update print driver at all, also when I login as the regular user I suppose to have my login preference set, but it didn't save my preference at all; for example, when I login and I select "test db" and log out again, now I login again to the app, then I have to go the first app instead of "test DB" as my default db? this app stores the uer profile in the registry.I gave full permission to the citrix users full control and still no go.

It seems like the app version doesn't like the win sp2, I rolled back to Sp1 and work.

thanks Scott!
