Cant' access network resources.

Hello All,
We have a user who is using a laptop, but unable to access the network resources from home. (User able to establish VPN connection to the server,but unable to access network folder. However,user can only access the network folders only through the server's IP address .
The laptop was brought to the office and tested by dialing into the VPN via an ISP and it works fine without having to do so through the IP address.
System is WIN XP Pro, SP2.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening ?

Inability to browse often means the client can't resolve NetBIOS names. You may want to assign WINS to the VPN client. If you don't have WINS server, you may use LMHOSTS. This link may help,
