Can't access my MAN pages

Im new to the whole Solaris enviroment. Currently im running Solaris 8. I bought the system off Ebay so i dont have the Solaris 8 disk. its loaded but when i log is as either user or root and try to get to the MAN pages i cant.
Im not sure if its the path or if they are just not loaded.
when i execute the command i get the error NO MANUEL ENTRY.
Any help would be appreciated.

What is your MANPATH variable set to? echo $MANPATH to find out.

Are there any man pages installed in /usr/man? That's where the main ones usually are.

Also try pkginfo -l SUNWman to see if the man page package is installed. Annihilannic.

When I did echo $MANPATH i got
/usr/dt/man:/usr/man:/usr/openwin/share/man/opt/SUNWvts/man

with the $pkinfo -l SUNman i got
error: information for sunwman was not found.

when i did a $ls -r in the /usr/man dir i got
man1 man1m man5
with $cat man1 i got unzip information
and installer information with the other 2

You need to install the SUNWman package from your OS CD-ROM. Looking at the Solaris 8 CD myself I can't figure out how you would do this; the only instance of SUNWman I can find is in /cdrom/sol_8_1001_sparc/s0/Solaris_8/Product/.virtual_packages/SUNWman but I'm not sure how you'd install a virtual package. Someone else may be able to help here? Annihilannic.

If you have a Sparc system you may be better off installing Solaris 9 since you can download the OS CDs for free fom the SUN Web site. They seem to have stopped offering Solaris 8 downloads.

Only really practical if you have a high-speed internet connection and a CD burner.
