Its very strange to me that no computers on my LAN can access a personal website of mine when everyone on my MSN list can. I've tried releasing and renewing my IP to no luck, searched and removed the little spyware I had, deleted cookies, temp internet settings etc, but I still havent been able to get on this website. The webhost says its there and I believe it because everyone else can get on it but me.

Recently I upgraded the firmware and it was a temporary solution. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I wouldnt be able to access this website? I have SP2 installed and read it does have some browser issues but why has every other website worked except just this one?

Also tried Firefox but it timed out.

Hope someone has some ideas? Thanks.

Trying pinging the website by name like The access it through IE.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

That is because echo is turned off but now go through IE and try to access the website.

Where exactly is this personal website?....On your LAN? How are you trying to connect to it? And if it is on your LAN, what device(s) connect your LAN to the internet?

The website is on a webserver located elsewhere, Im connecting through it with a regular ADSL connection which I have going into my LInksys router. The Internet works because every other website I browse to is accessiable, just not this one. Pinging the website and then trying access it didnt work.

Check for a file named hosts (you may need to include hidden & system files in your search). When found, open it with notepad & see if you find the problem site listed.

Checked the hosts file in I386 folder and the only thing listed on there was localhost.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Thats what it had, I just realized now that I have another website with this host and it isnt working either.

Can you post the site? That way someone can verify that it's working. Also, that would allow us to get the IP address, then you could try connecting by IP address.

Alright, well you can try hotstickybun.com or phrostdesigns.com, neither work for me.

I have no problem resolving either site. It may be that the DNS server used by your ISP has yet to receive the records for the site.

Well I do have friends on the same ISP that can access the site, I tried changing the DNS to match theirs but still had no luck.

Same thing, "page cannot be displayed"

Here is a traceroute I ran

. Set the Linksys router to a manual MTU of 1492
. Set your client to an MTU of 1492 as well. You can use the freeware DrTCP to do this:
SYMPTOMS
You might not be able to browse some Web sites or to send e-mail messages that contain attachments if your outbound connection uses Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE).

CAUSE
This issue may occur if the computer uses a smaller Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size on the public interface (the PPPoE connection to the Internet) than it uses on the private interface (the Ethernet connection for your LAN). If a packet is larger than the MTU size on the public interface, the client sends an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) error to the external server to request that the server negotiate the TCP Maximum Segment Size (MSS). However, this message may be blocked by some firewalls. When this occurs, the packet is dropped.

RESOLUTION
Adjust the MTU of the client to a value that matches the public interface MTU packet size.

I've narrowed it down to my router. The last time I tried connecting the ADSL to my computer directly it didnt work simply because I never registered the NIC's Mac address with my ISP.

Now the problem is trying to figure out why in the world my router is dropping packets.

Over 400ms for the first hop in your TRACERT is extremely slow! The fist hop should definitely be less than 20ms on a DSL connection!

If you're certain it's the router that's causing the delay, try updating it's firmware, and re-setting the configuration to factory defaults. If that doesn't work, I'd just change the router (they're cheap enough these days).

My memory is not as good as it should be, and neither is my memory.

I have forgotten more than I can remember

Thanks for the help to everyone, unfortuantly this turned out to be just a router gone bad.
