here is the setup...

I was upgrading my stepfathers computer to win98se from win95a, i installed a smaller second hard drive and coppied over some files that we wanted to keep and then fdisked and formated the c: drive.

I loaded win98 and everything is working great but when I put the second smaller HD back in to copy back the files we saved it won't access the disk and I can't even get them through DOS

any ideas???
thanks
Jason

It could be a few things, but first make sure that all your BIOS settings are correct and that it has recognized or auto-detected the slave drive.
Let's try this way...a lot of times the jumpers on both drives are set for the same (i.e. slave, slave or master, master) setting and cause a BIOS conflict. If you have your jumpers set correctly (one as slave & one as master) and your BIOS set up to properly recognize both devices, they SHOULD work just fine.

everything is set up fine as far as I know--the jumpers are set to master and slave the BIOS auto detects on boot up, and it is seen in my computer. when i click on it I get

There were some problems with posting before, so if JasonS could finish what he was saying we could try and help him.

Just a wild one....is the new HDD a Western Digital??? If so, ask the person who sold it to you if it has EX-BIOS pre-installed on it....if so, give it back & demand a refund.....coming from a PrefferedWD reseller, I believe you can trust this (I put too much trust in EZ-BIOS &* now one of my machines is acting about the same way).
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller. not quite....EZ-BIOS will override your normal BIOS & sometimes do REALLY nasty things like set your HDD to 16-bit instead of 32-bit access and stop the booting process if you have another HDD installed.
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller. don't ask me.....I've just been fighting it for several months.....you wouldn't BELEIVE the headaches it's been giving me!
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller.
